So I am going on a rampage of question:

I am applying to live in a Science, Math, and Engineering (I think that is what it's called) LC, is it worth it? I am passionate about science but I don't know if people who live there are chill, and fun and outgoing (like to bball or football games and other people to hang out) or just very studious and never coming out of the room... Are people there open minded or too resolute?

If I get into the Science LC, my dorm will be in Shaw Hall. How is this hall compared to other halls? Are the room more "spacious" than other dorms? How is the food?

And that just ends my rampage, guess it wasn't a rampage at all.

Shaw Hall is the best dorm to be in freshman year, they have the best dining hall within the dorm, and its right on frat row, perfect for the social scene. It’s also close to academic buildings. The rooms are not as spacious as other dorms but its worth the sacrifice, the building is also getting renovated this summer. Also I’m sure the kids on your floor will be chill and want to hang out too…they chose to go to Syracuse after all.

Another plus - SU has a lot of hills. Shaw is right on the same level as the quad. So the walks are short and easy.

For what it is worth, my son ( who is a freshman in Engineering but did not live in a LC) told me that that his friends who are RAs in the Engineering LC love being there and won’t be leaving their positions next year… It sound like a good place to live…

Hey there - I lived in Shaw my freshman year, and found it to be rather enjoyable. I didn’t live in any LC, but had pretty much constant access to it. Generally, SU kids’ll be open-minded and not all too “room-hidey”. This’ll be especially true since the LCs are pretty large. (This is a good thing.)

Shaw’s pretty nice. Like BillysDad2014 has said, it’s level with the quad, so your walk to campus’ll be pretty nice and enjoyable. You can either cut through SciTech and hit the Quad or walk the long, “back” way to the Quad. Regardless, it’s a pretty quick and easy walk. The dining hall’s not bad; I personally preferred Ernie Davis over Shaw, but it’s definitely a plus to have a dining hall in your dorm. (Think: Weekends when you don’t feel like getting dressed to eat.) Orangeleaves is also right, Shaw’s getting renovated over the summer. From what I’ve heard, they’re doing individual bathrooms… but don’t quote me on that.

For me, the best part of Shaw was being close to pretty much everything. You don’t find yourself walking up and down hills, and everything’s virtually two to three minutes away. Not to mention that when it snows, you’re not really slipping and sliding all over.

Hope that helps.
