Dorms at SDSU

Can't get away from McDonalds I guess. I know my daughter probably doesn't eat there. There are plenty of other choices. Did you find out how to get into the dorms for the Spring semester?

socal05, what do you think of the academics at SDSU?
Is it hard or easy to graduate in four years?

It used to be very hard to graduate in 4 years, but I hear it is getting better. You have to be focused and plan your schedule carefully and maybe go to summer school. My daughter had no problem getting all of her classes this semester, but I don't know what will happen in the spring. SDSU is one of the best CSU colleges and admission to the university is getting more and more competitive every year.

dstark, one thing I like about SDSU is the atmosphere. It is in a nice area of San Diego, the campus is beautiful, the students and staff are friendly, and there is great school spirit. Go Aztecs! Also, my daughter loves the city of San Diego. There is so much to do there and the beaches are close. It has been a positive experience for her so far.

I take it you are from southern California. What is your daughter majoring in? Is your daughter impressed with the student body, academically?
I like reading about great school spirit. So it isn't a commuter school?

So i just tried calling SDSU - the number isnt working and im pretty sure its
00111 619 594 1982 for the international office.
let me know if your seeing an error in this number.
cheers.

She hasn't discussed the student body in terms of academics. She is doing well and has found friends to study with, but since she is a freshman, she doesn't have anything to compare it with. Most freshmen live on campus and there are apartments and frat/sorority houses very close (walking distance). So although there is a large population of commuters, I wouldn't classify it as a commuter school.

Socal05 - no luck with finding out about the dorm system. Im getting really frustrated with those who work in the international office at SDSU as they are not responding to any of my emails which i have written over a month ago. My international office advised me to obtain a student number for SDSU so i can at least apply for housing - but cant get through to them because the number isnt working :(

Hopefully there will be some light at the end of this pitch black tunnel.

Im sure ill love SDSU - it was my first preference. I lived with 2 American students last semester and they advised me to choose San Diego because i love the hot weather and spend all my time at the beach.

As for mcdonalds, i think ill join your daughter at a salad bar! haha. Yes, its easy to understand why the USA has an obecity problem.

That number works. I just tried calling it (1-619-594-1982) It is the International Student Center phone#. Keep trying.

Here are some other phone numbers:
SDSU general information 1-619-594-5200
Housing Administration 1-619-594-5742

I don't know how it works for students studying abroad, but I think if you are accepted to SDSU, you should have been given a Red ID# in your acceptance letter.

Here is a checklist for foreign exchange students: http://www.sa.sdsu.edu/isc/EXprocedures.htm
It says:
Once you have been admitted , you will you will receive a Welcome Packet and Check List to Enrollment packet from the International Student Center that contains:
Pre-Arrival Checklist
Important Dates
Visa Requirements
Course Registration Procedures
Health Insurance Information
Housing Information
Financial Information
Getting Settled in San Diego
International Student Orientation

I have a question about the RED ID.
I recently sent in my application, but when I go to the retrieve my RED ID, it says that they were unable to find a match with the info I provided. Could it be that I am asking for the RED ID too early after my application is sent in?

Double, it may be too early, but it wouldn't hurt to call:
Go to the "get your RED ID" page: https://sunspot.sdsu.edu/pubred/alt_kiosk.main
Click on the "RED ID HELP" link and there is a phone # you can call.

Socal
Thanks for the info, but the lady I talked to from the RED ID help was no help at all. She said that I could get it at the CSUMentor.edu but I couldn't find anything there. Do you have any other suggestions.

And If anybody has gotten their RED ID can you tell me how soon you guys got yours.
Thanks

I also have one more question. Is there any hurry now to reserve a room, or is the real hurry after you get accepted.

YAY i finally got accepted and recieved my welcome pack. however, they forgot to send me my id number.
Double, did u get ur id number with your welcome pack?

No, I did not recieve any thing yet. I didnt even know they were accepting people already.

Congrats Aussie! Hope you can get the ID# straightened out.

Double, Aussie is going to SDSU next spring, studying abroad from Australia, I believe.

I emailed them and they replied straight away with my student ID number.
Now i just have to sort out my housing on campus - when do u generally find out that you have been given a dorm.
Double, are you an SDSU student?

No, Im applying for fall 2006
