Okay so I just began looking around at dorms on campus and I wanted to get some input as to what each of the dorms are "known" for. Also, which dorms seem to be the most/least desirable and why??

I’ve mostly found that it doesn’t matter at all. Regardless of which dorm they’re in, people I’ve talked to adjust to it really fast and are all happy with it.

You can also do a search of this board and find several discussions of dorms.

This thread is pretty much the authority on dorms at UT: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/569910-university-texas-dorms.html

Definitely look into the off campus dorms! I live at the Castilian and I absolutely love it! Its only a block away from the main campus of UT and the food is amaz!

jester - it’s huge but it’s not as rowdy as everyone makes it to be. it’s pretty quiet if you’re alone or with your roomie in your room. this one is closest to the library and has the most dining places so it’s really convenient. the downside is that it’s the oldest dorm.

san jac - supposedly everyone there hardly ever comes out of their rooms. it’s nicer and comes with private baths but it’s some.

kinsolving/duren - unless you’re in engineering i wouldn’t recommend these two because they’re on the other side of the campus. it takes 20-30 minutes to walk there from the other dorms and there are only 2 dining options. i mean if you don’t mind taking the bus from your dorm to the other side of campus every day then whatever :D

off-campus dorms (castilian) - it’s a party place. my friends who live there say that they can hear EVERYTHING. what sucks is that you can’t take anything out of the dining area. you have to literally eat everything before you leave. if you’re a picky eater, don’t live there.

^On that last point, it’s the same with on-campus cafeterias. It kind of irks me when I see people making off with tons and tons of food at Kinsolving.

lol at the people making off with food. ive seen people who im sure spent more than an hour just grazing there.

it’s cool i mean, gotta do what ya gotta do i guess.

Making off with food…

They have signs that say to not do this, but what will the cashier do if she sees someone with a box of food?

Tell them to throw it away or let them walk?
