Dorms for transfer

I applied for a dorm in late october and am soon going to apply to transfer to UT as an in state transfer. I saw another thread saying I might not get a room and I wont even find out if I get into UT until june because thats when my 30 credits will be finished. So now I am in a bind because I can't look for an off campus place to stay until I know for sure I am accepted but by then I might now have a place to stay. So if anyone can give me info on my chances of getting into a dorm I would appreaciate it. I have a friend who I was supposed to room with.

Sorry but I'm pretty certain that on-campus rooms for upperclassmen are reserved for returning residents. If there is any available space, they will process your application for housing based on the order in which you applied.

I'd suggest talking to an off-campus dorm such as Towers or Dobie to see if you can reserve space without signing a lease contract. You probably wouldn't be able to get an appartment without a commitment.

Don't bank on housing on campus though. Freshmen occupy 70% of the rooms, so less than half have to reapply to fill all upperclass rooms (in addition to all returning upperclass residents reapplying).

Good luck.

i'm an out-of-state transfer and my situation is similar to UThopeful...will i be able to get a dorm?

A cousin of mine who currently goes to UT says that I would most likely get a dorm but I dont trust him. I will just wait and see when i get accepted or rejected in june. If there is no dorm I will go get a private.

You should still be able to find a place to live in late June. There is a ton of new construction going up in West Campus, along with places like the Triangle. Not all of those places are going to be fully leased when you look for a place.

Of course, as newer developments, those places aren't necessarily all that cheap. However, I don't know how much it costs to live in the dorm (although, I know at other universities, dorms tend to be pretty pricey).
