What is the best dorm for freshmen who want to rush a sorority? Is it hard to get a dorm with a private bathroom?

There’s no ideal dorm for rushing a sorority that I’m aware of. For the optimal freshman experience, though, I would try to get into one of the dorms on the Main Campus. Popular ones are Farrand, Sewell, Baker, Cheyenne Arapaho, Hallett, and Libby (in no particular order). I don’t think any of these have private bathrooms, though. Most of them are older buildings that have the typical communal bathroom down the hall scenario.

The dorm that we saw on the campus tour had a bathroom (although my brother said it looked like the bathroom in SAW LOL!!) I think it was in Baker but I can’t remember. I like the idea of just sharing with my roommate and having the bath so close but i could live with a communal. Jus wondering if most dorms had privates available or not.

My son lived in Baker last year and liked it very much. There are no private bathrooms there, most rooms are doubles, a few quad rooms with a few singles but mostly doubles. He liked living on the main campus and near Farrand Field…Baker does not have a dining hall but Libby right next door does and that was where he ate most of his breakfasts.

We just returned from visiting the campus. The dorms around Farrand Field are where most freshman live. The room we saw in Baker did not have an attached bathroom. My daughter asked about private baths and was told there are two double rooms in Baker with baths, and a few triples with baths in the other dorms. Definitely only a few. The catch to those is that the students are responsible for cleaning the bathrooms and providing toilet paper.

This is the page where you can see what rooms types are offered in each of the dorms.

I live in in one of the Engineering Quad dorms. If I was to choose a dorm on Farrand Field it would be Willard Hall, which used to be an administration building but has been remodeled into a residence hall. It’s half the size of Baker, Libby et al. and right next to the best dining center at the C4C. My friend has a large, bright double with hardwood floors.

If you want to get your choice of one of the main campus dorms you better have your deposit in when they open it up in Jan. Anything after the middle of March and you will be stuck out at WillVill. If you are late in getting your housing app in and you want to live on the main campus, put one of the engineering dorms as a choice even though they say they’re for engineers, about 40% of the people in them are A&S. If you put your housing app in after the beginning of Apr you will be in WillVill.

Do most engineering students choose to live in the engineering quad? I’m leaning to living in a more academically diverse dorm. Any thoughts?

My son is an aerospace engineering student and he did not want to live in the engineering dorms at all. He wanted to meet a broad mix of people so chose Baker. He participated in the RAP in Baker and got to take his electives in the dorm. It was a good decision for him. He now lives off campus this year as a sophomore.
