Lol, no, it's a cheap attempt to fool admissions officers, Hahahaha

That's funny! So what part of the US are you really from? (if you're comfortable posting that information)

You fit a bed, desk, dresser, and mini fridge in a single?! At all the schools I toured, the singles only had enough space for a bed, a desk, and other stuff (not furniture).

Just barely, lol. And I can't sit at my desk. The bed is built into the wall, the desk is pushed all the way up against the end of the bed, the fridge is right next to the desk (no more for a chair at the desk) and then there's like six inches until the wall. The dresser is on the other 'side' of the room from the fridge/desk (er...2 feet away). The chair is next to the dresser, about a foot away to leave enough room to open the dresser drawers, there's about a foot and a half of space next to the chair where I stack (well, throw into a pile) my books/binders, then four crates stacked by two by two pressed up against the wall with about two feet more of floor space along the wall. There's probably, I don't know, two feet of space between bed and crates. Not much room to move around.

lol, verdad?

Wow. To think someone could live in that. Unless, of course, you're punking everyone reading your post that doesn't know any better. Was the dresser already in the room when you went there?
[/quote]

Yeah, the dresser was already there, the only furniture stuff type I brought was the fridge and the crates.

It's a little crowded, but I don't really mind. Less room to keep clean. I mean, I was hoping not to get this room (a friend of mine had it last year) because it's so tiny but I don't really care. I don't spend a lot of time in it. It was just as crowded last year in a double with a roommate (she brought so much stuff!) though we did have more floor space to walk around in. I'm also a messy person, I'm sure if I was neater and didn't just throw my books and binders all over the floor then it would be easier to get back to my fridge, lol....when I haven't cleaned up in a while I'm basically just walking all over my books and stuff on the floor to get to my dresser and fridge and stuff.

So...does anybody else know of any good places (preferably websites) to buy dorm stuff?

target(.com)

They have cute,cheap stuff

Yes!!!!!!! Finally, a store that's in my town!! Hooray!! I'm off to celebrate!

I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond for all my stuff...

We don't have one of those in our town either...:(

Must be a tiny town...

padfoot-- All of these stores should be in a mall. You must have one of those SOMEWHERE near you.

There IS a mall in our town, but it's pretty small. All it has is:
-Dillards
-J.C. Penney's
-Sears
-Aeropostale
-American Eagle
-Hollister
-Victoria's Secret
and a few other small stores.
There is a Kohl's and a Target outside of the mall and we used to have a Mervyn's, but it closed. :(

Target will have cool dorm stuff by about mid-July. IKEA, if you have one, is a good less expensive place to buy things as well. From a parent's perspective, pay close attention to the list you will receive from the school. Do not attempt to bring anything that might burn...no candles, no hot plates, etc. Bring posters -- the walls are bare. Def. bring a small fan...both for white noise and to move the air around as dorms can be quite stuffy, esp. in winter and if the dormmates do sports.

Nope. No Ikea either, but thanks for the suggestions.

Also....most stores push the halogen reading lamps and many schools do not allow these.
We used Bed, Bath, Beyond and Target as well. We have a Target about half an hour from our house. The mall is an hour away. Whoever commented "Wow, your town must be tiny" to not have X or Y store. Our town has a general store, an inn (the oldest in the country!), a realtor, a library, a post office, a police station, and a cafe. That's it. We don't even have a single traffic late.

wow, that gave tiny a new meaning.

Padfoot...catalogs are your friends. Also try target.com -- they have more stuff on line than any box store.

Yes, our entire school district (nine towns) has a combined population of less than 15,000. Our town has about 1500. The largest town has about 6000....they do have a Dunkin Donuts, but it is disguised (so as not to disturb the town's character). There is one small plaze with a small Stop N Shop and some privately owned businesses. But....it is a beautiful area to live in. Almost no crime and very steeped in cultural. Education is highly valued here as well. Lots of stay at home moms and wonderful opportunities for children.

to keylyme: why would your son want to go to BS then? your town seems great!
