is it tru that cornell dorms do not have A/C

i know the new dorms (Court, Kay, Bauer, and Mews) all have air conditioning.

though seeing how ithaca is pretty damn cold most of the time...

The Townhouse Community dorms have AC.

If the majority of the dorms at USC (Los Angeles) don't have A/C, I think you will be OK in Ithaca, NY.

you really can live without A/C. all you need is a fan for the first month and a half/two months of school. i actually still use it too on top of just my heat becuase my room gets sooooo hot.

laurstar07 - I know this is a little off topic - but what things would you recommend bringing from home other than a fan? I actually don't think I would have thought of a fan until this post! Any other suggestions would be really helpful! Thanks.

we should start a new thread on this topic. what to bring to cornell!

haha yeah, you won't have to worry about some of the dorms not having AC, you might want to bring a personal heater instead

-on the opposite end, ithaca gets really cold (obviously). my heat gets turned up all the way and im still cold. bring a couple of winter blankets (i use 2 down comforters and another blanket).

-RAINBOOTS. DEFINITELY A NECESSITY. and dont forget your umbrella either

-if you arent going to rent a fridge, buy your own.

-GOOD snow boots. girls: you think uggs are okay....yes they are warm, but with all of the wet slush it seeps through the toes and gets your feet soaking!! (speaking from experience) plus the salt and dirty snow stains them like no other.

just some things that i can think of now...

Yeah, you really don't need to worry about the lack of AC in most dorms unless you're staying in Ithaca for the whole summer. Also, it's up to you if you want to bring a personal heater, like Ravesky suggested. Personally, I never had a problem with heating in the dorms. If anything, my friends and I would sometimes get too hot during the winter.

You might want to think about bringing dishware. Initially, I didn't think I'd need any silverware while in college since I thought I'd be eating everything in the dining hall. I was totally wrong. I loved eating cereal in the morning, but I was too lazy to walk to the dining hall to get breakfast, so I needed my own bowl and spoon.

I second laurstar's opinion on Uggs. I talked about how I hate Uggs in a previous thread, so I won't go through that again. Cute, waterproof winter boots do exist. Check out nordstrom.com for some inspiration.

There'll probably be a bunch of threads later about what to bring to Cornell, so just look out for those when it gets closer to move-in day. They’ll probably have better advice than I do.

Yea, not sure if you'll need a personal heater. Cornell usually jacks the heat way up in the winter. We had to open our windows in order to get the temperature down to a reasonable level. Personally, I'd rather have them knock $100 off our tuition and not turn the thermostat up to 90 degrees.
