i know they're supposed to tell us "the first week of august," but i'm wondering if any current students could post when they got their dorm/roommate assignments?

I don’t remember the exact dates, but it was either right at the end of July, or within the first couple days of August.

On another related noted, I’m not sure if you’ve heard about the way NU does the housing, but unless you chose a rather large dorm for your first choice, chances are you wont get it.

well, i put elder down as my first choice. and i requested a roommate who also put down elder as her first choice. so we’re praying we get it.

How does NU notify you about dorm/roommate assignments? Email? Snail mail?

Elder you should be okay.

There is an only form you get. At this point you’ll also fill out what TV stations you prefer and accept your housing contract.

Email. You’ll get a link to log-in and find your housing contract, and your housing contract will include your dorm and roommate(s) name.

If I remember right, I got mine the first week or so of august.

I was just about to ask this in another post. I can’t wait! I applied for Jones as my first choice, but all of my top five were res colleges, too.
Majman: that’s interesting, because I’ve heard from a friend at NU that people usually get their first choice. I’m guessing it varies depending on what that first choice is?

They heard about dorm assignments today. My son got his first choice and is so happy. and a friend from home actually got the room next to his. What are the odds of that?

I got my dorm assignment today, and I didn’t get any of my top 5 choices. Most of my top 5 were pretty big, too: Allison, Bobb-McCulloch, Elder…

Is there any way I can appeal this? I got put into a small residential college, and I’m really not happy about it. I didn’t sign the online contract yet, so is there anything I can do?

^You can all and e-mail them. I’ve read that some people did get to switch dorms.

I got 1835 Hinman! w00t. My first choice! I hope I like it…

My daughter didn’t get what she wanted either but we decided not to try to switch. There’s no way you can know what will work for you given the little bit of info you can find on line about the dorms. You can switch dorms and get a roommate you don’t get along with, you can think you want big party dorm and then realize you’re not a fan of “swinging from the chandelier” and still getting to class at 8am.

They do make you sign the form before you find out who your roommate is (at least we couldn’t figure out any other way) so you can try to change it but mostly just suck it up and keep on going. Hopefully this will be your biggest disappointment in your four years at Northwestern!

As yummymango said “My first choice! I hope I like it.” No way to know until you’re there.

Hinman Lincoln
My first choice :)

i got elder!! first choice. i’m so happy.

My son got Lincoln. Not sure how it ranked in terms of choices. I sure hope he likes it. Roommates are the big unknown. having a roomie isn’t like you’re married, but at least it’s a time to compromise…hopefully find a friend and have fun.

My mom called freshman undergraduate housing, and the lady on the phone was very helpful. She said there is actually a pretty decent chance I can switch rooms if I send them an e-mail, so I’m going to go for it.

Just note, your preconceived notions are often wrong.

My daughter is in East Fairchild (CRC). On the website it says suites but it looks more like a regular dorm set up. Does anyone know if it’s suites and how they are set up (ie. 2, 3, or 4 doubles with a common area and bathroom)

Thanks!

That’s because “Suites” just means “a bunch of people share a living/lounging room and a bathroom, but otherwise have one roommate and it functions like any other dorm”.

It’s not much different than people that live in a hall and use the hall bathroom in a “regular” dorm, except for the sporadic areas with couches/windows.

Does anyone know if Elder Hall did get air conditioning?

Yes, Elder has had air conditioning since last year. Each room has a window unit.
