Does anyone know if a double degree is possible at Amherst? Any chance this can happen through the five college consortium, especially at umass? I only know of the engineering degree from Dartmouth. Thanks!

Amherst does offer the opportunity to double major, which is especially achievable with the institution’s lack of distribution requirements. In the case of the class of 2011, 35% of students graduated with double majors.
Here’s a link to the major distribution:

How about dual degrees? Say, get a BS with another institution

As far as I know, classes may be taken throughout the five college consortium or the 12 college exchange program, but degrees are only issued by your respective institution.

The only dual degree program I can think of at the baccalaureate level is Columbia’s program with a French University that awards degrees from both institutions.
