Hi everyone, I was admitted RD to NYU (which does its application through the common app) and committed to it a while ago. Meanwhile I remained on a waitlist for UC Berkeley, which I prefer over NYU, and just recently I was admitted off of the waitlist for Berkeley spring start.
I would like to cancel my intent to register at NYU and put a deposit down for the UC one ASAP, but Berkeley has the FPF that I would strongly like to apply for which is very space limited and is offered on a first-come first-served basis, however I have to pay a deposit before applying for that program. Since it’s Sunday NYU’s admissions office is closed, but I would really like to place a deposit on Berkeley ASAP. Am I allowed to place a deposit on Berkeley today with the intention of calling NYU as soon as their admissions office opens?
I personally don’t see an issue with this- you are fully intending to withdraw from NYU. What you could do to cover your bases is send the NYU admissions office an email today before you submit the Berkeley deposit, jus to show intent to withdraw.
Just do it tomorrow. I heard you aren’t allowed to put down more than one deposit without the possibility of getting rescinded. Your deposit won’t be processed until tomorrow anyways. If the FPF program isn’t full right now, waiting until tomorrow most likely will not make a difference in the numbers
You can always send an email to NYU today and follow up with a phone call tomorrow.
Thanks guys, I’ll probably send them an email today and make the deposit at Berkeley
Don’t worry. You are fine.
Thanks everyone, I sent them an email earlier today and put my deposit down for Berkeley. I’ll be calling NYU when their office opens in 5 mins.
Yes, you can do so. All that will happen is that you will forfeit the deposit you paid to NYU. Happens all the time with waitlisted students.
