This is a bit of an odd question and I didn't know where to post it but since I go to Berkeley I thought I'd post it here.

So I am a transfer student and currently in my second semester. I never planned to double major but now I really want to. The problem is I need to take about 6 lower division courses (2-3 which I need before I can begin upper divs for the major) and wouldn't be able to finish the double major in my allowed 8 semesters.

So my question is, does anyone have any experience with their allowed time being extended a semester or two? Also, if it turns out to be impossible for me to double major at this point, is there any way I can "reapply" somewhat to get back into Berkeley but not have to retake any courses I've already taken so I can get a degree in another major?

I’m pretty sure there is some way or another to extend your time…but there are also summer sessions available. You can knock out at least 2 over the summer. That being said, you can probably take any upper div class you want if you think you’re ready, so you can do the lower and upper div at the same time. What major are you adding? They don’t really check prereqs or anything.

thanks for the reply. yea i included summer sessions into my plan and still i would need an extension. i would be trying to add a CS major so i dont think concurrent enrollment in lower and upper divs would be a good idea

“Your double major request will be approved only if your proposed program demonstrates that you will be able to finish all degree requirements within nine semesters (counting enrollments in all institutions attended) or by the end of the semester in which you exceed 136 units.”

yea. their criteria is either you finish in the allowed time and you can take as many units as you wish, or you can take longer if you stay within the unit limit. i’m planning to visit an advisor but just wanted to see if anyone here knew anything since I won’t be able to see one until next week and was really curious
