Is it feasible? I'm applying to three universities - Northwestern, UChicago, and (safety) Loyola Chicago.

Hey there,

It is absolutely feasible to have TWO majors and graduate on-time, as long as you have a goal, and even better, a great plan.

Make sure you get general education requirements done early on before transferring, and then, as soon as you get to your new college, sit down with someone in academic planning to help you develop a solid path towards your majors.

Personally, I started out at the University of Massachusetts as an English and Spanish major; however, upon transferring out my sophomore year, I discovered at William and Mary I wanted to be involved in neuroscience and international relations; now tell me that isn't a huge switch!

It can work out for you, but just make sure to be smart about things. It also helps taking summer sessions; these generally aren't all that painful.

Good luck,

I have thought about double majoring in English and Philosophy but I am still unsure of what my course load will be. I want to transfer next year but I am going to be close to going over the semester units cut off. Instead of taking 14-17 unit semesters will I need to hold back? I am trying to take Eng and Phi classes and finish the necessary required classes. Should I just take it easy for now and focus on the english and philosophy after I transfer?

depends entirely on the school. At some, its hard evne for those admitted as freshman to do double majors. Check out core requirements/distribution requirements etc. In most cases I imagine that if you plan ahead you'd be fine

If you took a lot of APs and the schools accept the credits, that can be a big boost. Other way would be to take as many courses you think are transferrable so you can bag a lot of credits either way. But it's definitely possible to double major, although it may be easier as sophomore transfer.

Not so much on the APs...

I imagine a double major as a transfer at a place with a very very strong Core like Chicago would be nearly impossible - and who knows about credits even transferring.... I want to graduate on time.
