Double Major @ Cal

Can I double major in both Economics and Political science without completing all of my economics prerequisites when if I am admitted next year?

Thanks

Uhhh - no! You get accepted in the College of Letters and Sciences then you have to declare your major. You need to have the prerequisites done in order to do this.

Here’s some more info on the Economics major, since it’s really capped: Applying to the Economics Major | Department of Economics;

The above ^
So basically, apply to the major you have prereqs done for, then start your double major once you’re already in – preferably starting with econ since it’s capped . That being said, it worries me that you don’t have prereqs done. It may take you more than two years to finish your degree unless you want to be taking high unit semesters, which nobody recommends.

Understood.

Still, do you think It’s possible, if I have everything done by then except for cal 2?

That is, can I somehow finish cal 2 there and apply to economics if not the same year the following? I plan on devoting all of my time to my studies, blood sweat and tears.

Thank you both.

English is my second language but I have been using it for like 12 years, so will I need to take TOEFL or such tests for admissiond in american univarsities?

@Derhund12 - You need to take all of the prerequisites to declare Economics. So yes - take Calc 2 as soon as you can so you can declare the major early. You MUST declare the Economics major your first semester if you are a transfer student.

@ocnative
Do You know if they will except math 1a from my community college if I take it the summer semester prior to the fall semester i start at berkeley¿

Thank You !

As a prerequisite to your declaration of economics as a major at Berkeley, no. You need to have all of the prerequisite courses completed by the end of the spring semester before you transfer for whichever program(s) into which you apply.
