I am a 2nd year community college student. Like many of you, I submitted my college apps at the end of fall as an Anthropology Major. I love Anthro and no mattet what people told me about finding jobs and money, I was firm on being an Anthro major. After i submitted my apps I took 2 geology classes to fulfill requirements and I fell in love with geology. It’s the first time I really thought about changing my major. I don’t know what to do. I really want to go into geology. Would transferring and then changing my major work, or double majoring. I would do anything and work to make it work. Any advice would help. I applied to UCLA, UT Austin, Texas State and UC Santa Barbara/Cruz. Do you know how double majoring works at thise schools or switching majors after transferring.
What does the Transfer Advisor at your CC tell you about this? You aren’t the first student to change their mind, so surely there is a way to do that.
Do you have the frosh/soph prerequisites for the geology major complete? If so, then you just need to check whether there are any administrative or capacity limitations on changing to the geology major.
If you do not have the frosh/soph prerequisites for the geology major complete, then changing into it could delay your graduation at significant cost, and some universities may not allow changing into a major that you cannot complete in a reasonable number of semesters or quarters.
You can try web searches for “[university name] change major geology” to find policies.
