Double Major: Confused Again

Hi guys, again! I am wanting to double major in Finance and Accounting. Here are the requirements for the two.

Finance: The Finance Majors 2006

Accounting: Degree Requirements: Undergraduate Program: Department of Accounting: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University

Some of the courses seem really similar although they are not coded the same way. I'm sure Kelley takes this into account (finance and accounting is probably common). Is there an official combination of the two?

Thanks again!

Here are all the post I-Core accounting/finance classes double majors need:
BUS A311 Intermediate Financial Acc I (3 cr.)
BUS A312 Inter Financial Accounting II (3 cr.)
BUS A325 Cost Accounting (3 cr.)
BUS A329 Taxes and Decision Making (3 cr.)
BUS A424 Auditing (3 cr.)
BUS A422 Adv Finan Acc OR A437 Intermediate Managerial Acc (3 cr.)
BUS X301 Comm. for Accountants (1 cr.)
BUS F303 Inter Investments (SC) (3 cr.)
BUS F305 Inter Corp Finance (SC) (3 cr.)

Adding these three courses is one way to get Accounting/Finance double major:
BUS F307 Working Capital Mgt (SC) (3 cr.)
BUS F402 Corp Finan Strategy (3 cr.)
BUS F408 Eq and Fixed Inc Invest (3 cr.)

I've never worked out a requirements list for like an investments or real estate emphasis in finance. For accounting/finance major, you start with figuring the minimum required courses for accounting and then look in those minimum required accounting courses for ones that will meet some of the requirements for the finance major. The accounting major requires "a 9 credit hour supporting concentration in a business discipline other than accounting." If you made those three classes F303, F305, and F307, then you would just have to take F402 and F420 to get a double major in accounting and finance. There are probably lots of other ways to get the double major, but all would start with taking the required accounting classes listed above and F303 and F305.

Taking this route to the double major would be only six more credit hours than majoring in accounting alone. 125 credit hours for the accounting major; 131 credit hours for the accounting/finance double major.

Regarding those substitutions of the required accounting classes for Finance classes, you can start with the following from the bulletin, which has accounting substitutions for finance track majors.:

Major Requirements
Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Years: BUS-A 310, A 324, F 303, F 305, and one of the following: BUS-A 327, A 329, A 420, or A 422.

Elective Hours: Twelve credit hours with at least 6 credit hours at the 400-level from the following: BUS-F 307, F 317, F 335, F 390, F 402, F 408, F 420, F 421, F 446, F 470, F 494, G 345.

Permitted Substitutions:

* Intermediate Accounting. BUS-A 311 and A 312 can substitute for BUS-A 310 and 3.0 credit hours of a 400-level finance elective.
* Cost Accounting. BUS-A 325 can substitute for BUS-A 324 and one of the following: BUS-A 327, A 329, A 420, or A 422.
* Money, Banking, and Capital Markets. ECON-E 305 can substitute for BUS-G 345.

Notice that the accounting classes you can substitute finance requirements for are accounting classes required for the accounting major.

If you did the real estate track in finance or wanted a stronger investments emphasis and tried to also major in accounting I think a lot more hours would be required.
