accounting and finance???

hello everybody

i want to major in accounting and finance (i am a kelley direct admit). how difficult is this to do exactly? how many extra classes/hours am i going to have to put in? does anyone know someone doing this?

thanks for the help guys!

Accounting major is 125 credits. Accounting + finance double major requires only five finance classes, or 131 credits total. This is a popular double major, including my son doing it.

See pages 8-10 of Kelley bulletin.

thank you bthomp!

unfortunately i cant open the pdf you posted. and just to clarify the difference between getting just an accounting degree and getting an accounting+ finance degree is i will just have to take five extra classes over the course of the four years?

Below are the requirements for a major in finance. On the same page is the accounting major requirements.

Accounting majors must take a number of accounting courses and also nine credits in a business concentration other than accounting, such as finance, supply chain management, management, finance, etc., for a total of 125 credits.

Say your outside concentration was finance. You would probably take F303, F305, and one other course to get the nine credits in finance that would be required to complete the accounting requirements.

In terms of getting the double major (the table in the link is very confusing, listing how some accounting classes substitute for some finance requirements), you would add two upper-level finance classes to complete the double major. So you are only adding six credits for the accounting and finance double major, giving you 131 credits.

For instance, for the double-major, son is taking:

F303 (required for all finance majors)
F305 (required for all finance majors)
F307
F402
F408

The above finance classes is what you would take for a corporate finance type finance major. Finance majors interested in investment banking, for instance, would probably take different electives and probably a class or two beyond 131 credits. Real estate finance/accounting majors would take a lot more. But the accounting/finance major can be done in 131 credit hours. All finance majors take F303 and F305.

(The link is to an old bulletin, but I don’t think the requirements have changed.)
