Double Major- History and...

Hello-

Recently I've been considering what I want to major in. I've come to the conclusion that I want to double major and one of them will be history. I'm thinking of either being a history teacher, working in a museum, or an archeologist. I really wanna get to study a huge range of topics.

So...

History and Sociology or
History and Anthropology or
History and Art History
all with a minor in philosophy.

Depending on the type of museum you want to work in, Art History or Anthropology would probably be your best bet. Does your school have a museum studies program? That could also be good.

If you plan to double major, I strongly advise choosing a more practical second major. The job market is rather tight, and you’ll need to bring marketable skills to the table.

If you’re interested in pursuing teaching, education would be a good bet if the history department doesn’t offer teaching certification. If you’re interested in museum work, I highly recommend a second major in business. For archaeology, a major or minor in geography or any of the sciences is beneficial.

I’m seconding @warblersrule86. History + business, history + math, history + statistics, etc. would be more useful in the job market than an overlapping major which wouldn’t add a whole lot to your market value when you graduate, even in fields like teaching and museum work.

I always thought if you double major, you don’t have to take a minor.
The OP says that they would like to double major and then minor in philosophy.
