Hi Everyone,

I am interested in double majoring in Engineering and Business. Does UT Austin allow you to do that? Can you apply for both majors when you apply or do you have to apply for one major and then add the second major after getting into UT? Would I be able to complete both degrees in 4 years at UT Austin?

Thanks for your help!

I think you are supposed to talk to academic adviser about that and they can approve you on it. Also I think it is impossible for you to finish a business and engineering degree in 4 years. This is because an engineering degree usually takes 4 and a half years to complete for the average student, but can be done in 4 years if you take like 17-18 hours a semester, or take summer classes. And a business and engineering doesn’t really have overlapping classes (excluding the class that everyone has to take english, history, etc.). For example, I am a Computer Engineering major, but I could also double major in Electrical Engineering if I take around 5 additional classes, this is because they two majors are really similar and have overlapping classes. I would suggest that if you really want to be both a business and engineering major, major in engineering and minor in business, that way, you will be probably be able to finish in 5 years and an engineering degree at UT Austin is really good.

Yes, you can double major in engineering and business.
You have to apply for one major and then apply for the 2nd major after your 1st year at UT. (business and engineering both require internal transfer applications)
You can complete both degrees in 4 years if you’re coming in with 40-50 hours through AP credit or if you are willing to take summer classes.

Thanks. How about Engineering and Plan II? Is it possible to complete engineering and plan II in 4 years?

There are many Plan II/Engineering majors. Such is quite feasible (if you have a fair amount of AP/IB/community college credit).
