Double major in two different colleges

I want to study German (College of Arts/Sciences/Letters/whatever) and Supply Chain Management (School of Business/Management) in college. I suppose my question could be answered by waiting until Monday and telephoning individual admissions offices to ask, but I'm just looking for some generalizations here

Generally, when you apply to college can you come in as a double major (apply to both colleges from the start), or do you apply almost completely independent of the individual college (everyone who applies is in one big group) or would you have to pick one school and declare the other major later on?

My question is kinda two-parted: my GPA will be ehhh (3.2-3.3) with an upward trend (2.7, 3.5, 3.5 or 3.6), but my extracurricular and test scores are definitely much better. So should I apply as a German major only and add business later? I have a lot of German ECs so it wouldn't look like I'm trying to find a backdoor (I don't think). My only worry is that at schools with more competitive business schools just adding SCM wouldn't be just a trip to my advisers office.

If it'd be helpful, here are the schools I'm applying to:
UNC-CH
NC State
UNC Charlotte
UNC Greensboro
U South Carolina
Clemson
[still looking for 1-3 more]

At some universities it is easy to double-major across colleges or divisions. In others it isn’t. You really do need to read the websites thoroughly to find out whether it is possible or not. If you can’t find the information there contact admissions and ask them.

Even if it is possible, the requirements for graduation from both divisions of the university may be different enough that you will need to plan on an extra semester or two in order to complete both programs. Print out the degree requirements for both majors, and see how much of an overlap is possible.
