Double Major or no double major?

Hi there, Currently I am a sophomore, both Cinema Studies and Economics double major.

I enjoy both subjects, but lately I've been wondering if it's worth it in the long run.

See, the Cinema Studies program is offered as a major only, no minor- the program's amazing, though. Lately, I've been wondering if doubling in Econ is worth it. I want to be independent VERY quickly, and I see the word "Economics" on my bachelor's as a ticket to that life, expediting my earning potential. I am good at the subject, and I find the study of decision-making fascinating.

Cinema Studies is equally fascinating, as I wish to work in marketing for film and/or television. The media theories help maintain my enthusiasm for entertainment.

I declared recently, so I'm a little behind. I can fit the two majors in there, but it means seriously overloading each sem. Right now I am taking 24 (max) credits plus an internship at a marketing firm- all the classes are for the majors.

The reason I'm confused is because I do not feel confident JUST majoring in cinema studies. But should I be confident with internships? Confident enough to simply minor in Econ? I'm also shooting for a Psychology minor, which is almost finished.

Basically I guess I'm asking which do you guys think is better:

Cinema with minors in Econ and Psych
Cinema + Econ with a minor in Psych

Sorry for the long post, but I think all this info is relevant. As a side note, I see the current internship as a springboard to another internship with NBCUniversal, Viacom, or some other big name in entertainment. Factoring that, should I still be confident with JUST a Cinema Degree? I do not hate Econ, but life would be a tiny bit easier if I abridged my Econ studies.

Thanks for input if you have any =)

I would think if you can possibly maintain the workload then double major for now. It will lead to more opportunities

I think it depends on the curriculum. Look at the difference between the econ major vs minor. It isn’t worth pursuing Econ as a minor if it isn’t going to give you a strong foundation in the subject. Also, if the major is just a few more classes than the minor then go for the major!

omg twinsies.

except i’m dropping my useless humanities major and focusing on econ, because i already have significant graduate and theoretical coursework and a good relationship with 3 potential LORs in case i want to pursue graduate school in the humanities (which i really, really, really don’t), so i honestly don’t need the major.

after all, many jobs ask for an economics major, but i’ve never seen a job posting asking for a film major - nor do studios require one, as far as i understand.

Stick with econ as a second major, if at all possible. Unless your GPA or graduation date are in jeopardy, there is no downside to having a second major (vs. only having it as a second minor).
