Double Major

Hi,

My son was admitted to the Brandeis midyear class. How hard is it to double major? He’ll be coming in with some AP Credits and a few courses in the fall. The majors will be in the social sciences.

It's very easy to double major. First of all, Brandeis is relatively generous with the AP credits. They also let you double-count many courses. (i.e. many courses count for both History and Politics)

Ridiculously easy. People either double major, take up a minor or three, or both. I think in history there are about nine requirements...over four years. In fact I don't think I know a person who wants to study in just one field!

I also had a question about gradschool placement. Does anyone have the numbers for psych?

How common are double majors in a social science or humanites field and one in the science? I'm thinking about History and Environmental Science.

Well, environmental sciences isn't a major, it's only a minor. So if you want to concentrate in environmental you HAVE to study something else too. So that would be fine. Double majors are less common in the sciences in general because the science majors are far more extensive, 17 or 18 courses on the lower end and over 20 courses on the higher end.
