I plan to double major in philosophy and computer science. Do you think this would be feasible while graduating in four years? Do you need a lot of credits to get a computer science major? What about a philosophy major? How extensive are the gen eds? I have quite a few AP credits and would be willing to take summer classes.
I know there can be no precise answer to this question, but I appreciate your help.
It’s doable. My son is planning on a double major in Biology and History and he knows someone in his dorm who is a Computer Science and History double major. Roughly 70% of WashU students have double majors or a major/minor. There are students with a major and double minors.
I would go on the WashU website to check on the various requirements. For any major in Arts and Sciences there are a number of general education distribution classes that need to be taken as well as a writing requirement.
Computer Science is in Engineering and Applied Sciences so some requirements will be different.
For AP credits you can use up to 15 units as long as you score a 5. A score of 5 on the BC test will give you 6 credits for Calculus 1 and 2 and place you into Calculus 3. A score of 5 on Statistics will give you 3 credits and exempt you from the class.
Science credits are kind of tricky. A 5 on either of the AP Calculus C tests will get you credit for the physics sequence classes. However a 5 on Biology and Chemistry just gets you general education credits.
