I’m a full time sophomore year industrial engineering student at my local university and just recently discovered my passion for marketing and business. I can’t double major in my college so I’m considering doing it online part time in another college. Should I double major since I really want to enter the marketing management field or do I stick to industrial engineering ? Cause some relatives told me it’s not worth double majoring. Thank you all!
You don’t have to double-major to go into marketing, and in fact, I’d bet most people in marketing didn’t major in it (since most colleges don’t offer the major). Consider just remaining an industrial engineering major and taking some classes in marketing without necessarily majoring in it.
Does your industrial engineering program have concentrations in business or data analytics? Marketing is a lot of stats and programming today. I would think an IE degree with a minor in Marketing, especially Digital Marketing would be a great way to go.
In the consulting companies I’ve worked for, it’s been an engineer responsible for marketing. No additional degree required. It’s the experience and relationships with potential clients that matter.
