Who is with me? I admitt I used it, but now I realize that it is ruining the college admissions process by making it way too easy to apply to 10, 15 or 20+ colleges, which makes it so difficult for colleges to predict their yield. So what ends up happening? Many qualifed students end up waitlisted. (yes I'm a little bitter, but i think i have a valid point too.) If i could do it over againg I would have applied to 8 schools(or less) and not used the common app at all. Since it would be totally impossible and Big Brother-ish to limit the number of school a student applied to, I think colleges should just eliminate the common app to at least somewhat hold down the number of apps a school recieves.
Sorry for the rant.

i love the common app. i applied to 11 schools, and 9 of them were with the common app!!!

well,

students are happy - its easier to apply

Colleges are happy - they get more apps, lower acceptance rate

All are happy - most are happy where they get into college

Options are more when u have apped to 10+ cols

Its a win-win situation... I dont agree with you hansel. I agree that many qualified applicants get wl ut obviously the more qualified or better fits get in

im not happy. i hate the common app. i dont like it when people who just apply to another college and possibly take slots from people who truly are in love with that same college.

I LOVE IT! I'm gonna apply to all my safeties using it....I'll use regular apps for the colleges I reallyyyy want to go to.

That's a good plan arctic monkey.

Yeah I hate the Common App too. I especially hate how most of my top schools make the Common App mandatory with their own supplement. At that point people just say, "hey, I might as well submit it to 230942 other schools too."

One girl I know got into Harvard (her CLEAR first choice - her brother goes there and everything) early but still applied to a bunch of other schools. She was the only person at my school to get into Yale, whereas a bunch of people I know REALLY wanted to get in. She could've stolen their spot.

I highly doubt that, theoneo, if the others were qualified enough to attend Yale, one person's acceptance will not affect anything.

But you guys have to realize that the admissions office accepts more people because they know that their yield is going to be lower, so this common app stuff may actually be helping some of you out.

That's why I chose my first choice...University of Michigan. UMich doesn't accept common app, forcing fewer students to apply, which increases my likelyhood of getting in. :)

Hmm the places I used Common on (well, i used it for only 2) rejected me. The other place I used their own application on accepted me. I would like common better if schools didn't have their own supplements. I only applied to 5 in the first place, so I'm bitter that I didnt apply to 10,000 schools.
