I think its confusing as hell. When colleges require a supplement, it basically negates its usefulness. It's like filling out two applications. Plus, I think its way easier to log on to one college's site and find all their own admissions procedures and forms all laid out. No following links or guessing on supplemental materials policies. Plus its layout sucks. The labor saved by not rewriting your address just isn't worth it to sift through links and read school specific and common app procedures and policies.

Eh. I think the ECs part sucks. But overall I like it.

Mostly.

I'm just bitter because I have no clue weather I can send supplemental recs. with common app.

You can :) it's pretty simple, actually.

I like not having to fill out tons of forms on paper with the common app. Minus the recs :), and even those are pre-filled out with your info.

The common app isn't soooo bad.

Do I use the teacher recommendation form even though its my principal who will be writing the rec for me?

This is for Swarthmore, btw.

Oh man, I'm hijacking my own thread!

"The common app isn't soooo bad."

Yeah your right, but its late, I'm tired and I wanted to get together packets for all my teacher writing recs, but now idk if I can do a supplemental.

it sucks i hate writing those crappy supplemental essays

My school wants everything in by Friday...I'm still staring at the common app confused on half of it...so I ask my friends for help, and even though they've completed it already, i still don't understand what they're saying to do!

Common app- statistically proven to take years off of your life!!!! well not really....or maybe it does....

I think it's awesome. I don't have to write a million essays and get used to a million different formats. I think that the colleges with their own applications are confusing. :( Might just be a matter of preference.

Really, I hate the all the "Non for profits" that dictate our college application process.

Anyone know the process for a common app supp. rec?

common app. is not that useful for me, considering only 2/9 schools I'm applying to use it.

I like it alright...there could be some areas for improvement but overall, it's pretty cool.

How can you submit a supplemental rec. with the common app.?

Do you just use the teacher rec. form?

I love the commonapp. I think it's so simple to use.. the layout makes it really intuitive.. and 9 out of 11 of my schools use it. What's not to love?

To me its more confusing since you abide by and must read and understand two sets of instructions, one from the school on one from commonapp.org.

Its especially unclear on supplemental recs... ahem...

I HATE the Common App. I dislike the layout and the fact that it's so popular, and the fact that I have to send things by mail to have them be college specific.

the common apps good for teacher recs
one form for them all
hey, maybe teachers will like writing a rec for you if theyre not filling out a bunch of forms

whatever, ONly because teacher recs i think.

I love the common app. Doing 8 Common App schools it has saved tons of time. Plus - to everyone complaining about format or layout - Do UMichigan's App. CommonApp is 50,00x as good.

I think the Common App is merciful. It's quite convenient even if there are the supplements.

I did UMich's app. It's tied in my dislike.
