so I submitted my apps yesterday afternoon and on the commonapp website it said "submitted 1/1/09" but today i got emails saying it successfully "downloaded 1/1/09"...what does that mean?? i wont be disqualified will i for having it download 1/2/09 but submitting it 1/1/09?

the same thing happened to me! On the common app website, it says:
"If you see that your application or supplement has been downloaded, the school has printed your application or supplement and it is under review."
So I hope that that just means the college actually downloaded it and printed it off the common app on 1/2/09 and that our apps are still valid. Plus, if you click on the supplement link for the school, it says "click here to see your supplement submitted on 1/1/09"

that happened to me as well, but i don't think it's a big as long as you've submitted it on 1/1/09... Cheers ^^ (submitted my Penn 3 minutes before the closing, PHEW)

"Submitted" is when you submitted your application. "Downloaded" is when the college accessed your application to begin processing it. "Downloaded" is a good thing, but of course the "Downloaded" date may not be the same as the "Submitted" date. The "Downloaded" date is really inconsequential.

Bottom line: If your application shows "Downloaded," then your college has received it and will use it to create your file.

Why would a college download your app if they had "disqualified you" for being late?

pFNMCp, I think the OP just didn't understand what "Downloaded" means. Overwhelming procrastino-stress and lack of sleep can do that to people. ;)

Oh, haha.....I thought they were asking if they would be penalized for the application being processed late

Oh my goodness, this made me freak out. I don't see my "Submitted date" anywhere for some reason, and for one of my schools the download date was 6 days after I submitted it! Agh. They're definitely different, right?

Yeah because the download date replaces the submit date.
