Just finished my draft for the common app essay...evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.

I know its really bad so do not be frightened by its badness haha...suggestions would be appreciated. It is a little on the short side too (only 319 words, max 500) but I ran out of ideas so it would also be nice if ppl could point out areas where I could elaborate...

Post here if you would like to read and help..thx/

I thought that there was a 500 word limit on essays for the Common App and most university supplements…but ya I would like to make it a bit longer cuz rite now it is onlyl 320 words

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Some of the points I got are
-talk more about myself
-last part is too general
-remove the moral part and mix it in the other parts while being descriptive and stuff

Wondering if anyone has like experience writing this type of essay, cuz I kinda just understand the 5paragraph intro-body-conclusion type essay. Is there like an outline, or a template or something I can follow?

^ You can read “50 Successful Harvard Application Essays.” Most of the 50 real life essays it contains deftly manage to mix straight narrative with a unique voice.

Here’s what the paper application (PDF) says about length:
“Personal Essay Please write an essay (250 words minimum) on a topic of your choice or on one of the options listed below…”

Perhaps the online form has different information about the essay length?
