Hey everyone I was wondering something really important about the common app essay.

I recently submitted the common app a few days ago with an essay that I was working on for over two weeks. It was originally around 1600 words so I had to dissect and disembowel it to get it down to around 680 words. At the moment, I think its still fairly good but not even remotley as good as it was at original length and it has difficulty staying on topic. I was in a huge rush to submit it, because one of the colleges I wanted to apply to had a deadline of Dec. 1st. I had no choice but to quickly edit it.

Just a few minutes ago I thought of an extremely good idea. One that I feel really stupid about forgetting to write about in the past and most importantly on the common app main essay. I know that the common app essay is vital so I really want everyones opinion on this issue.

Also, does it matter if you double space or not? I did.

oh, forgot to include my question. Do you think I should write the new essay and send it as a "revised" choice to the colleges that I applied to telling them to disregard the old one?

I wouldn't advise it for fear it would make you appear indecisive as well as non-compliant with the deadline. If it's possible to change the essay on the application for any schools you have yet to apply to, that would be fine.

u can make a different version of the common app by going to instructions and look for application versions. Then you can upload your new essay on the new version and send those to your other collges

Yeah, but I already submitted it....

ohh haha i thought u wanted to send a different essay to colleges..but yea id say stick with the one you sent

Perhaps one might want to check the respective school's web pages for advice concerning word count. For example, Yale stipulates a maximum of 500 words; this clause applies prominently to the second essay- but by extension, it should cover the first as well.

Which college had a deadline of Dec. 1? I got an e-mail from Harvard stating that I should turn in my app. dec. 1, but I'm submitting it on Jan. 1.
