Dream school acceptance?

Ok, first of all I would like to address the fact that College Board does not let me submit my SAT scores to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

It's always been a dream of mine (and my family's) to attend this prestigious institution of higher learning. There are a couple questions I have about it first though:

1) I'm a muggle, does that count as a URM? That also means that I'm a first gen wizard too.

2) What are the research opportunities? Is it easy to work one on one with a professor, preferably with a certain potions' teacher?

3) How is the surrounding neighborhood? I hear the campus is beautiful, but it's not the best location (ie dangerous forest). I haven't been able to visit.

4) I know it's supposively in England, I'm in the US. Do I count as an international student? If so, are acceptances lower and harder to obtain?
Also I have no legacies either.

5) How hard is the defense against the dark arts track? I'm worried about my grades because I've always dreamed of working in the Ministry of Magic and I know it's extremely competitive.

Well about my qualifications: I've self taught myself how to fly a broom (I'm working on playing quidditch). My current school doesn't offer any courses in magic studies so will that count against me? Other than all of that I'm an above average student and have a passion for learning (which I plan on showing in my essays). I'm well rounded and have several leadership positions.

So can anyone tell me my chances and the average acceptance rate for Hogwarts? Thanks guys I appreciate it.

LOL the thing about the area was the best.

I'd say your chances are close to nil... you muggle.

I'd say this is slight reach, I know a lot of Muggles accepted to that school but you haven't taken any wizardry so that slightly decreases your chances.
Good luck anyway!

idk, you're not even varsity quidditch

I say slight reach. Your hook is that you taught yourself how to fly a broom. Not a lot of muggles can do that. Good luck. Tell us how it goes. :)

Ok first of all I'm teaching myself quidditch. This has to show admission officers that I have perseverence and will overcome my lacking availability of wizardry related clubs and activities. At my current school, also filled with muggles and from a nonwizarding location in the US (would that help the URM status?), wizardry is looked down upon. I have to fight for what I believe is right.

If anyone else has opinions or statements about the school I'd like to hear them. I went on Hogwart's website to see what their financial aid policy is and for a virtual tour but there's no mentioning of either.

I'd just like to clarify that my safety school is Salem's Witchcraft academy. They accept few male students but I believe I would fit qualifications well.

At such a competetive school, it would probably help to show a lot of interest to distinguish yourself from the slacker types. Try sending the admissions office a letter with an owl (preferably of a very high breed), or you could send them one of those screamer things, but that might be a little too obnoxious. Are you planning on taking the WAT's?

Actually I was looking into the O.W.L.s and the N.E.W.T.s I've heard scoring high on these would impress admissions, especially since fifth years at Hogwarts take these.

Wow, you nerds.

I won't even try and come up with someone thing to respond to that with...but hahahah. Ohhhh I love Harry Potter fans.

I think you can make it into Salem's Witchcraft Academy more easily if you pretended you were girl. So, if Hogwarts (the most prestigious) fails, I suggest fauxing your info so that you're a girl. Don't worry, if you keep quiet and be very careful, I don't think your admissions will be rescinded.

I'd also like to mention that I was an aspiring witch. I've dreamt about going to Hogwarts ever since I was a wee little girl. So one day, I tried to do one of those elaborate spells to make my cooking easier, and I set the whole kitchen on fire. From that day on, my dreams were ruined. I'm a failure. But I hope Lady Luck favors you more. With your talent as a muggle, you can do it. :)

Thank you, I hope I'm a competitive muggle applicant.

BTW you shouldn't have been doing magic outside the classroom, they say it's dangerous for a reason.

I believe Hogwarts will contact you if you have magical abilities. Muggles are not accepted, but if you are indeed a muggle-born wizard or witch you will do well at Hogwarts. The top 6th year currently is a muggle-born witch, Hermione Granger.

Hogwarts is also a dream school for me, but I am too old to be considered being 17. Generally first years are 11. I guess it is UC Berkeley or maybe Stanford if I'm lucky for me. I am not sure if potions require any magical ability so maybe I'll ask around to see if I can minor in that.
