Dream...

My dream is to go to Columbia. I'm currently a freshman w/ a 101.25 average in a few ECs, all leadership positions and what not. But what can I do to get in and fufill my dream - other than great SATs and test scores? How many APs? Is a 3 on an AP bad? What summer program? I want to be a laywer btw. Thanks so much!

Hey. Just make sure you show them you have a passion. and show it in your essay! the essay is so so important. and make sure you develop good relationships with your teachers so they get to know you more in order for you recs to be really strong.

Take the most challenging classes, achieve high test scores, get great letters of rec. This will show your leadership/ability inside the classroom. Focus on getting a passion in your extra-curriculars, a couple prestigious awards, great essay - this will show your leadership/ability outside the classroom. A good combination of the two will give you a great chance.

Thanks for the help so far, but always open to more answers:] I’m interested in english and law (I’d be pre-law I guess, with an english major), so what are some good ECs for that? What about good awards? Like what should an english pre-law student have on their app to show passion and drive and what awards? Thanks again.

Although its nice to have awards that are related to what you want to study, you should always, always, always get involved in the ECs that interest YOU.

Although I want to be an engineer, I wrote about being in Crisis Staff in Model UN for my essay and how it opened me up. Although Chess was my favorite EC, Model UN was a close second and it definitely shaped the person I am today.

As to the AP scores, they’re not as important as the grades you get in the classes. It would look better to get high AP’s but dont stress it if you do bad a few or many.
