Dress style of guys at penn

I am going to penn in the fall, and was curious as to what kinds of brands penn guys wear. The frat scene, specifically, is what I'm most wondering about. I plan on rushing and want to make sure my style fits in at Penn. any opinions?

just be yourself for goodness sake! You shouldnt have to wear a specific brand in order to fit in! :)

I don’t know if it is a matter of what brand to wear, it is about the style of the campus. Penn is a city school, so there tends to be a lot of people who dress nicely, fresh jeans, khaki’s, button down shirt, sweater type of style. Think j. crew or banana republic, etc. You don’t have to to buy a certain brand, but if you are wondering what the style of the campus is, I think from what I have seen many people do dress nicely. I don’t notice a lot of sweats or messy jeans etc. I see more put together looks.

There are also a lot of professionals around campus, who might be older Wharton MBA students, or graduate students who are coming from work who might be dressed in suits, or business casual style. Students are wearing suits occasionally when they have interviews, formals, fraternity events etc so you should bring a suit, or at least a sports jacket.

That doesn’t mean you have to wear that type of clothing, or a certain brand of clothing, but you asked what the campus is like. I would say there are a lot of stylish people but certainly not over the top and not judgmental that you are not wearing “the right brand”.

Now, this is just a generalization and there are some people who don’t pay any attention to their style, but since you asked, I am thinking you are interested.

[It’s all about Southern South.](http://totalfratmove.com/southern-south-the-fraternity-mans-fraternity-brand/)

so the thing i like about penn it that people vary a lot in what they wear. you wont generally see sweatpants (as mentioned above) and most guys wear nicer sweaters (think j crew style) with dark wash jeans. button down shirts for rush. frat tanks for going out (during the earlier part of the year).

make sure do you bring some formal wear because there will be date nights and interviews.

LOL, so funny! One thing - not everyone on campus has money, so yes there will be some dressing fancy but likely a lot of jeans, T-shirts, polo shirts, sweaters, and very little sweatpants and torn stuff.

Bring formal wear? Seriously? You rent it if you need it, and if you pledge a frat, they usually have a few tuxes lying around.

There is no “frat scene” at Penn as much as other schools, as those in fraternities and sororities and not integrate pretty extensively. I don’t think Penn starts rushing until spring of freshman year or maybe later at this point; they had just changed to rushing spring of freshman year in the late 80s IIRC.

The weather is rainy and dreary, maybe some snow but usually not too much. Decent shoes are a good idea, and an umbrella. Kids who dress very well are advised not to stray too far from campus as to become a mark.

I am not sure, but I think by formal wear pologirl might have meant either a suit, or sports coat or something suitable for a date party or interview. As for the other clothes, you pretty much agree with what everyone before you said. No one said everyone is Rich, but you can dress nicely or in a certain style on any budget.
