Dressing Young (Part 2)

I agree with Martha, sort of. I think she always looks appropriate and well dressed. It’s one thing to say there are no rules, it’s another thing to be a woman in your 50’s dressing overly revealing. Women who don’t dress age appropriately end up looking sad, imho. I think I dress very stylishly and youthfully, but there are still some rules to follow.

I still dress the way I did in high school. Jeans, sweaters with boots or sneakers as my primary attire. Yes the jeans have changed over time (high waist, low waist, shorter, longer, flare leg, boot cut. etc.) For that matter, the sweaters have changed over time (puffy sleeve, shoulder pads, shorter length, longer, etc.). I have always loved color - so I have always bought a variety of colors that I wear (again whatever was in at that time - brights, pastels, patterns, etc.) I never wore revealing clothes - nothing too low cut, nothing too short, and nothing see through. So it is easy to stay age appropriate. BTW my 29 year old daughter’s primary attire is the same - sweaters, jeans or “boyfriend” pants, with books or sneakers.

During the 80’s you might have seen me in a micro mini or a crop top for a night out. My 23 year old daughter is often in the same types of outfits for a night out bar hoping or line dancing. Regardless of the kind of shape I’m in, I don’t think micro minis or crop tops, extremely low cut tops, etc… are appropriate on a 50 something year old woman.

I’m not petite but I like Jean Wang’s style. My favorite to follow is beautyofaboymom (Anna Daily). She is 5’9 like I am ( she is much slimmer) but my daughter is same height and built just like her and we both like her finds and tips.

@deb922 , I like Mother Jeans too. Frame has similar fits if you’re ever stuck looking for an alternative.

Since people are suggesting blogs, I’ll put a plug in for this one.

https://www.merricksart.com/

She’s younger than some. But she’s morman and her style is pretty conservative which I appreciate. She does a lot of tutorials, what to wear with this. So good information.

I’m also a fan of Jolynne Shayne. I follow Jean Wang also but her style is quite different than mine, more business casual than I need at this point in my life.

Their style is all over the place and it’s younger, even though the bloggers are in their 40’s. But I enjoy www.themomedit.com as it’s a consortium of different bloggers with different styles.

I’m not the best at keeping up with blogs but started following merricksart on Instagram and enjoy her reels that give tips - good info, little time investment!

I guess I should clarify. I stopped following blogs, now I follow on instagram

It’s something I feel a little bad about because I think I’ve heard some influencers say they make the most revenue on their websites (blogs) - but unless a social post tempts me to read further on a blog I’m not in the habit to go there.

LOL - based on this ad today, FB clearly has not figured out my age, style, figure… or budget.

But at least you COULD wear it if you wanted to. (That’s meant as a compliment!).

A couple months ago Saks emailed me that dress as an option for my MOB dress! I had been searching their site almost daily for a long dress in either pink or blue with sleeves. Check, check and check. Maybe they need a filter for “won’t get me arrested for indecent exposure”

I like Jolynn Shane, but so many of her outfits are jeans. I can’t wear blue jeans to work and I have a hard time finding blogs that aren’t all jeans outfits.

Corporette?

Never heard of that, will check it out…
