Drexel College of Medicine Interview

Could anyone who has had the Drexel BA/MD interview share details of their experience with us who have applied there? I have the interview very soon and I want to make it into the program, especially after all the application fees, stress, and expensive airfare from Florida. Could you guys who have had the interview specify what 1)kind of attire (suit or just pants and dress shirt?), 2) types of question (did it include HMO's, Stem Cell research, abortion, etc.?), 3) who were you interviewed by (faculty member and/or student?), 4)How long was the interview?, 5) How many are interviewed and how many of those interviewed are accepted? 6)Any other tips. Thanks.

hey... it's not that bad... just like any other interview... i don't know the stats... and you're interviewed by a faculty member

Just wear Suit. Interview questions are just general. Some candidates (3 out of total 21) had to go downtown hospital via shuttle for the interview. Our seesion started with a tour (including visit to gross anatomy..) Interview lasted for 20 -30 minutes with lunch with med students. I was out by 1PM.
I think I did good !

my experience was exactly the same as rm516's. Everyone there seemed to want the interviewees to succeed. Very low pressure and kinda fun.

^^agreed, its pretty low stress but still be prepared. However, its safe to say that you will encounter no hardcore medical questions.

Thanks. I have somewhat of a better idea to expect. However, it would be more helpful if you could answer...How many are interviewed and how many of those interviewed are accepted?...as well as...What questions were you asked?

when did you all get the interview offers

i got mine about three weeks ago.

My interview's on monday!! Anybody interviewing for Drexel's A.J. Scholarship?

i got mine in january and interviewed last week... they probably do it in waves...

How many are interviewed and how many of those interviewed are accepted?...as well as...What questions were you asked?

i don't know the stats... the student touring didn't know for sure... but i'm sure it's probably around 100 for each program... the questions were typical of any interview... there were no major surprises

It seemed like last year drexel med programs(lehigh, drexel) accepted like anyone who got an interview, some with low stats, i'm just saying from talking to people I knew and people they knew who interviewed there. Has anyone else heard similar things?

curiosity, i believe that i heard the same thing. I know that drexel is a fairly easy program to get into compared to other programs. Hopefully this is true because i'm counting on it as a "safety" program (if you could say such a thing).

when i called, they said that 250 ppl compete for 20 seats and its extremely competitive

Do you mean 250 applicants or 250 people are interviewed? I think Foodisgood is trying to say that most of those interviewed are accepted, meaning that maybe 50 or so are interviewed and 20 to 30 of those are accepted. If you think about it, Drexel is doing interviews from the 20th to 28th, which is really 6 days (weekdays). During each of those days, I doubt they have time to interview more than 8 applicants since each interview is about 30 minutes...and the day is supposed to be over by 1, not including the time spent in orientation, touring, and lunch with current medical students.

Besides, all programs will like to say that they are "Extremely competitive". Even lower ranked colleges like to say they are selective. Maybe it really is "Extremely competitive" for the average Joe Blogs, but for combined medical applicants, hopefully Drexel is a safety. I like to think optimistically and whydontyoumakemecry, please stop trying to make other people cry with your pessimistic comments. I wonder who you talked to...probably some secretary who read off of the program brochure. Regardless, I would really like to know the definite answer to...........................................................How many are interviewed (in number form; example:100, 75, 50, etc.) and how many of those are accepted?

lehigh/drexel interview about 100ish people (I think it's a bit more but im being conservative) and has only 10 spots open. This came straight from Lehigh University.

I just want to add to clarify that no program actually accepts the number people they have seats for, neither does a regular university. Obviously not everyone they accept will matriculate. From my own observation and talking with people who applied to numerous programs and reading discussion boards for the past couple of years, more than half the people they interview probably get accepted (my sister applied last year and she stayed in contact with a few of the people at her lehigh interview day and they all got accepted, as did her friends from high school and summer research who also applied, some of whom had SAT's in the high 1200's and lower 1300's). A random poll of people by the end of this process could give us a better idea of acceptance v interview rates. I just wish they could be honest about these things instead of trying to make the programs seem so selective by having us believe that we "interview 50 and there are 10 spots" well yes, that may be true but they have to accept more than that because probabalistically those accepted will decide not to attend. Back before the change int he medical school Lehigh may have been more selective, I'm not sure. Who really knows...it is interesting to see if people end up getting into certain groupings of schools and collectively rejected from other groupings.

actually, when i interviwed there were about 20 ppl, not 8. but i still hope that you are correct.

Hey ya'll I'm a sophmore in the Lehigh/Drexel program so if you have any questions about it feel free to IM me at sideran8 or e-mail me at srp204@lehigh.edu...but yeah...I really think the Lehigh/Drexel program is one of the easiest to get into because it seems like they just let anyone and everyone in during my year...and I think like 3 people got kicked out just after freshman year so I mean they're not exactly picking the cream of the crop...but yeah feel free to contact me with any questions about lehigh/drexel. peace...Sravan

srp204, do you know how many they accepted in your year (a number).
