I was just wondering how easy is it to drink at your university?, and If you get caught what are the penalties for underage drinking or smoking pot???

Are you asking about the laws of the state in which the college resides? I mean you know that the law on drinking under 21 is NOT.

i mean like the punishment from your school, i ahve observed kids get caught with marijuana and still continue to go to the school so i was just wondering...

it really varies on the school. at my school if you drink in your room and your not to loud, nobody cares. Some RAs are strict, some aren't. It's just how lucky you are.

Weed is always more serious. You'll probably get put on probation and maybe have to take a semester off. Again, it depends how much you have.

Are you planning on drinking and smoking pot or are you just curious? Why would you want to do this destructive behavior? The penalties at my university aren't very serious, unfortunately.

rahulnirmal, you really should keep quiet until you do a bit more research.

anyways, where I go to school you can do anything in your room. If security comes just hide it and open the door, they cant open a fridge, closet, or drawers. if you get caught outside of your room they take it away and they might take your name down. it takes a while to get in trouble.

Just make sure its actually security and not police that are at your door. My university has a state police force as its "security", and all they need is reasonable suspicion to search the room.
That being said, the official policy of on campus housing here is that you are allowed to drink alcohol in your room (no matter your age) as long as the door is closed and you aren't being too loud or whatever. Basically, as long as a passing RA can't see/smell/hear it, you're good.

blacklines: I would consider something that could get you kicked out of your college destructive, but that's just me.

A good tip for girls: if you're ever drinking and security/police knock on the door and you ahve stuff in there, you can always say someone's naked/in the process of changing. they have to let the person finish changing which gives you time to dump/hide stuff.

beck, that depends on the school

if you are caught at my school (UC Davis) drinking on campus - especially underage, you will be sent to judicial affairs where you will be put on disiplinary probation (basically you're kicked out of school for awhile). There was a freshman that got caught by one of the residence halls on halloween drinking (there was a small blurb in the school paper about it).. and that's what happened to him.
In davis though you basically can't drink outdoors. If you want to drink outside, the only place you can legally do it (insane as it may seem) is the high school football field (well lit area) as long as it is not within 1 hr of any school function - parks, streets & other public areas are off limits. (Davis is a silly town)

at my school you get three alcohol strikes. you get charged $50 and have to take an alcohol awareness course the first two times (with individual counseling the second time), then the third time you're charged $500 and kicked out of the dorms.

same with marijuana, only there's two strikes instead of three.

honestly, I'd rather get caught drinking by an RA than get an MIP and a $200 fine from the Tempe police
(and I never have been, for that matter)

Wow, those are some harsh penalties...in Queen's res, the general policy is if you're in your room and not giving your don any reason to come in, then you're good. Even if you are caught, they'll just tell you to pour it out. The worst that could ever happen to you is you might get a bond. Academic punishments would never be used. Same goes for weed, although you usually don't smoke in your room (although we did hotbox a room last year... :p) so the chances of being caught are pretty slim.

Campus safety will only confiscate alcohol. If you need to go to the emergency room, you'll get a counseling session and that's it. THe only trouble you'll get in for pot is if you're dealing. My school rocks! It's funny that the penalties for breaking quiet hours (aren't enforced, but are there just in case) are harsher than the penalties for smoking pot or underage drinking.

drinking is no big deal on my campus. most ra's really don't care what you do. if you get caught doing something stupid like breaking exit signs or something then u'll get in trouble.
