Whoa, big overreaction! No one is going to force you to do anything. If you're not comfortable with drinking, just don't go out partying--there are lots of other things to do (clubs, service activities, study groups, theater performances, readings, generally hanging out). And somehow I don't think that Princeton is loaded with drug pushers. There is probably some illicit drug use, but it's not going to be the focus of social life, nor will anyone think any worse of you if you don't choose to partake.

Oh my god, Illicit???!!! That means really bad! I've also seen movies where they funnel beer done freshman's throats! I'm really scared/nervous if I go to a party school like Princeton.

The people on CC are really bad at reading sarcasm.

^But they all score 2400's and have 4.0 GPA's? Can't they understand sarcasm too!? I think that they are too smart to let sarcasm slide by.

unfortunately there's no aptitude test for detecting or using sarcasm, and if there were, it probably wouldn't be relevant to college applications.
shame really

@Mustafah:

Generally each eating club has the same amount of parties per week as the other eating clubs. Parties at bicker clubs tend to be more popular, but that might just be because you need to have a pass to get in.

Gosh yes, I'm terrible with sarcasm. Mostly b/c I don't want to offend people if they're actually serious. ;)

Thanks for the scoop, ray. I appreciate it.

^ Haha, I just did the opposite with Saugus (assuming it was sarcasm when it was serious).

Dude, Saugus, c'mon now. How on Earth are all the grade-deflated, overworked Princeton kids going to vent their frustrations and let loose on the weekends without a little alcohol?? Do you go to parties often?

My Princeton INTERVIEWER told me straight up: "Oh yeah, the eating clubs were great for drinking on the weekends. Princeton's a lot of fun in that regard."

Quit being so stuffy. Loads of brilliant people love to drink and smoke. Look at Winston Churchill ;)

P.S. Wheatland, I got your sarcasm right away lolz. Well, mostly when you used the word "marawanna" hahaha

I thought Wheatland was serious and was about to say: "See, it's not that strange, somebody agrees with me." Then I saw that he spelled Marijuana wrong and knew he was being sarcastic.

I guess alcohol exists everywhere, and 18-20 is closer than High School ages so it isn't as bad I guess...

What percentage of students would you estimate use it? At my High School, it's over 50% at least, maybe as high as 75%.

Well there are people who drink and then there are people who drink all the time. Btw I actually have a relevant statistic from this pamphlet I got from University Health Services:

"According to a 2008 survey of Princeton University undergraduate students, 26.8 percent of students did not consume any alcohol in the past 30 days."

Princeton does have a bit of a drinking problem.

My aunt works at the ER at the local hospital. Every weekend a few Princeton kids will come in, either too drunk to function or passed out. Alcohol at Princeton, I don't mind. Seeing smart kids act like complete idiots by bingeing uncontrollably? That I find a little annoying.

I have heard that Princeton has a "3x you're out" policy when it comes to binge drinking like this. If I am not mistaken, if you have to be taken to the hospital 3 times because of alcohol poisoning or passing out, then you get kicked out of the university. Harsh? Perhaps. But chances are students like this have a problem that needs to be sorted out outside of school...

might be harsh but it makes sense. Just drink to where you have fun, no need to pass out.

^ I concur.

i dont think theres any college where there isn't underage drinking...

plus i think its kind of stereotypical to say the smart kids in high school are completely straight edge... maybe it worse where i come from (i think my county has the highest teen drinking rate in the country) but probably about 70 percent of my ap classes at my catholic high school drink... and a lot of them are going to go to good schools or amazing schools like princeton

when one of my friends took a tour at princeton the tour guide said they like to have fun on the weekends.. they made it to princeton so why not (she actually said something like that about working her ass off to get to princeton so then why not party a little now that shes there)

wow lol. saugus are you a rejected kid that never gets invited to parties thus hates alcohol just bc inside ur really angry for not being social?

or are u rele just against underage drinking? just wondering

"i dont think theres any college where there isn't underage drinking..."

BYU? lols

Also, does this mean that Princeton students don't get to draw on their passed out brethren because the Princeton administration carts every sleepy party-goer off to the dread Student Health Center?

@Acceptd

Well, I'm against it, but I'm not going to stop others from doing it. Just surprised, that's all.

Acceptd, are you a loser? Because what kind of nerd names himself "Acceptd". Just wondering.

Just kidding. We're all nerds. No need to insult another nerd.

LOL, i think Saugus was being sarcastic.
