Hello, everybody! I just registered, and this is going to be my first post on this website.

I plan to transfer to university next fall after having spent several years at a community college. I plan to move into a dorm. One thing that concerns me is the fact that I can't drive. Basically, I had a bad experience in Driver's Ed a few years ago and quit impulsively. I've been thinking about trying Driver's Ed again next semester, but even if I were to successfully complete it, there's no guarantee I'd be able to get a car due to some financial difficulties my family's currently going through.

My question is, would it be lame to move into a dorm without knowing how to drive, or being unable to drive? I wouldn't want to annoy my future roommate by asking for a ride everywhere. :P

No you will be fine if you can’t drive. I don’t know where you are transferring too but at many colleges very few people have cars or a need for one except for when going home. Some schools don’t even allow for students in certain grades like freshman and sophomores to have cars on campus.

If you do not know where you are going next year and this is a big worry for you then I would suggest that you look into schools in city’s since almost no students have cars at city schools or you look into schools that don’t allow cars on campus. This way everyone else will be with you and won’t be able to drive even if they have a licenses since they won’t have a car.

Thanks, Swimmer! I’m going to transfer to University of Texas at Arlington, which is right next to the downtown area of the city. Still, I don’t know what the driving situation is like for the students living on campus.

You don’t need a car. Many freshmen don’t have them.
