<p>Soooo....don't know what do do. The midterm for H53 was extremely easy, and only 50 mins - I messed up with algebra, so I'm assuming I'll be dealing with a bad curve :/, but the questions were really nice since the problem sets are torture. I am completely lost when it comes to the level of calc I think I'll see in the 53 midterm since H53 was so concepty (looking at what Neu said, and his old midterms), but the curve will be nicer there, and I'd like to think I'm not stupid...</p>
<p>Quizzes count in 53 -not in H53- and they aren't that bad, but bad enough (apparently I have the GSI that gives out the hardest tests, but he's insanely helpful):/ </p>
<p>No HW to turn in for 53. 5 problem sets (4% each), all proofs, in H53 and the last (first) one took close to 20hrs....I was exhausted the next day and didn't study for UGBA 10 because of it. </p>
<p>Any opinions? I'm double enrolled and have to drop one....trying to get into Haas and need to keep my GPA up. </p>

<p>You might be too optimistic. I mean – one way is to pretend you didn’t realize it all along (even after declaring), and then in your last semester “suddenly” notice your mistake and ask them to change it, citing the need to graduate. In general, the university really wants people to graduate, and this is the only situation in which I’ve ever seen a successful retroactive P/NP to letter grade. But, of course, you run the risk of them not allowing you to change it…</p>
<p>I think, if you do 53, the curve should save your grade. If you’re good enough to succeed in H53, that already puts you in the top 10% at least. Whether or not you eventually get your A depends on how much you can disengage yourself from the “distaste” of practicing boring, repetitive problems.</p>
<p>Yeah - you probably are right haha. I’m just worried about bombing this midterm because H53 was so concepty that I hardly understand what regular 53 questions are asking for - while others seem to. For instance, our midterm was like “add vectors a and b. Add 2a + b. Find the dot product of a and b. Find the cross product of a and b. What is the tangent line of the polar function at (1,2)” - reallllyyyy straightforward. I’ve already gotten a 5/10 on an “easy” quiz in 53 (9 on another “hard” one I suppose, but still :/)</p>

<p>I would not count on being able to change P/NP to a letter grade on the basis of needing it for your major, especially if it would be for a second major if you already have one major.</p>
<p>If you really have a strong interest in majoring in math, the proofs in H53 will give you practice for upper division math courses like 104 and 113.</p>

<p>I do intend to do the proofs - just not “formally” and bound by a due date. I’ll figure out how to do them, and not deal with the write up (which took 5ish hours on it’s own) and little errors and stuff since, in all honesty, he doesn’t expect formal “proofs,” and hasn’t even told us how to do them. It’s more “show that…”</p>
