In my spring semester I dropped my calc 1 class and I had the genius idea of taking it over again at summer. I'm getting a C/lowB in Calc1 right now so I was wondering if it was a better idea to drop it again.

P.S I don't need Calc 1 for my major (psych/philosophy) but I wanted to go to med school in the future.

I was wondering if it is a better idea to drop or simply to get it over with here.

For UCSD and for a (psych/philosophy) major, it shouldn’t be a problem, especially if you TAG with UCSD. I also got a C in calc 1 but I tagged with SD and my overall GPA was a 3.3 so I was fine.

Berkeley and UCLA, as long as your other grades are super high, I don’t think that sole grade will impact your admission. especially since the course isn’t required, just make sure you do not get anything less than a C. I know sooo many people (including myself for calc 2) that went into the final with a C but got a D after the final. So if you don’t think you can easily get a high/mid C I would drop. A D will look bad to UCLA and Cal.

If you can’t get that low B, I would probably drop it. Again…Psychology admitted students for UCLA/Cal is becoming more difficult as each year goes by. If you’re going for Philosophy then take the C, if you want to apply under the Psychology major I wouldn’t risk it.

Just take the low C. Calculus 1 is ridiculously difficult in Berkeley. If you are currently receiving a C at your cc, I guarentee you will fail calculus in Berkeley.

i received 3 C’s and was still admitted into UCLA (one wasn’t transferable though, but one was a major pre req)

if the class you’re about to get a C in is a major pre req, drop it and try to bring it up next semester. but since according to you, it’s not, i would just take the C, it wont hurt (assuming that’s your first one), just try not to get any more - but more importantly try working to get at least a B.
