Dropping a class senior year

My D was accepted to CLA and I have a question regarding a change in senior year classes. She is taking AP French 4 and is extremely stressed out about it. She is also taking 2 other college classes. My question is what would the university think if she dropped her French class? Is there a chance they would rescind her acceptance ?

Yes, there is definitely a chance they may rescind her acceptance. I am also in the same boat about possibly dropping one of my AP classes and when I called the university, they said that I may have to send them a written statement in the form of an email with an explanation about why I am dropping the class, from there a committee would review my statement and my overall file and they would reevaluate my application to see they would need to rescind my acceptance. It is definitely a bit risky to drop AP French 4 this late into the game, but I would speak to an admissions counselor because the procedure may be different depending on the student. One question I would have for you is, if your daughter were to drop her AP French 4 class would it be a Drop/Pass or a Drop/Fail? That can make a huge difference in how the university views dropping the AP class.

Honestly I am not sure about the fail/pass question. Thank you for the info though. She has worked so hard these past few years and the university is her dream school so I am sure she will try and stick it out. She is just so stressed out and not enjoying her senior year at all and I hate to see her so miserable.

Yeah sure no problem! Senior is definitely a hard year especially with what seems like a tough course load your daughter has undertaken. There’s no harm in calling the university to address your concerns though, they may have a more helpful response. Best of luck!
