dropping a class

Im not doing too well in ap computer science ab, im a junior. I have a 74 (UW) right now, which is like 15 points lower than any grade ive ever had. We're not having anymore tests this year, so my grade probably won't fluctuate more than a couple points. I could probably type a full page about why Im doing bad but I actually know the material, but rather than do that, Ill just keep it simple and say that it probably wont get better anytime soon.

The earliest that I can drop it is for the beginning of next semester, so Ill end up with a big fat "C" on my transcript. My GPA previously to this was around a 94 (UW). How significantly do you think this wil hurt my GPA? What will colleges think of dropping a class, or getting a C? Are there any other things I should consider before dropping this course?
This is so frustrating for me. Ive always been able to get a good grade if I put in enough effort, but this just won't work out. Ive never wanted to cry this bad before lol

From reading your post, I see the effort you are putting into your classes. I know this is hard for you and you are worried about your grade. I would do a couple of things in this case!

The best thing to understand how much getting a C will affect your grade is to go see a school counselor and ask him/her to calculate your grade for you. She/He can put in a hypothetical score into the computer to give a very accurate prediction.

The second thing you need to do is to actually sit down and talk to your teacher about that EXACTLY you could to do improve your grade. I don't want you guessing probably there are only a few tests now---I want you to be EXACTLY sure. You need to know exactly by doing such and such assignments with a grade of this, you can average this much by the time the semester ends.

I have to tell you that one time I had a C-/D+ in a class and in order for me even to get a 90% was to get 98% on the two tests I had and get 100% on all the homework. I'm not even joking. But, I didn't get discouraged and I studied like crazy and when to the teacher 5x a week to get help and to give me more practice problems and more things to do and I managed to ACE all my assignments. I wasn't able to hit the 98% mark for the tests--my average was 96%--close but NOT IT but because of my efforts, my teacher ended up giving me an A. So, you need to be willing to work NOT JUST HARD, but CORRECTLY in order to raise your grade. Imagine the impossible--think that is IS possible and continue on thinking that and one day that WILL BE POSSIBLE.

Make sure you are able to NOT JUST WORK HARD, but understand how to MAXIMIZE this effort of working hard to ACHIEVE AS MANY GOALS AS YOU HAVE. Working hard with no strategy might get you a C in a class but working hard with a strategy--I study a certain order, I limit myself of studying such and such with a specific time, I learn how to study better and focus more[---alll these things help you not just study--but STUDY CORRECTLY--doing that--working hard with a strategy in mind will make a difference.

If worse comes to worse- you have tried your very very best from this point on and you will have learned how to improve yourself when you think you fall behind and there will be no regrets.

Before you close this page and shut your computer off, please take the time to read this post I posted that is relevant to your situation as well. ( http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=409823 ) The post is POST #4--I am aware that it is VERY LONG but it is so relevant to you and it is exactly what I want to say to you too!

Thanks for the post, I really appreciate the response you gave. I just noticed a typo in my orignal post. I meant to say we're not having anymore tests this semester, not this year
