I'm currently in a very risky situation. There's a very good chance I can earn a C or D in my AP Calc class for this second semester, and I'm debating if I should drop it or not. The local college offers a Calc C class that I can take in the spring/summer, which I would take if I drop. I will not recieve a "W" or withdrawal from dropping; however colleges will know I dropped because they'll see my grade from 1st semester. If someone can explain what consequences it may have on my college application, that would be great.

so it comes down to...should i drop? or is it not worth it?

Can you not drop to a regular level Calc class? Is it only offered AP?

If not, I would drop the class and, if you have the funds, take it on-line at your own pace. Stanford and Johns Hopkins both offer on-line calc-but it’s expensive. If you can’t do it on-line, I wouldn’t both with community college at this point unless you are genuinely interested in the subject.

Many schools require that you notify them if you change your schedule, but dropping a single class isn’t going to be a big deal unless you are, for example, applying to an engineering program and you are dropping math in which case, you may want to try to fill that gap.

My answer, by the way, assumed you were a senior. If not, then you have more options, but in any case, dropping a single AP class to avoid a D or C isn’t going to hurt your chances of admission, especially if you make it up in some other way.
