Dropping an igetc class semester prior to transfer

I'm considering doing this, only problem is I said I would have igetc done on my application and this will obviously change that. Am I screwed if I do drop, should I contact the uc's I applied to and see what's up?

That is NOT a good idea, don’t do it. Are you failing or what?

Ugh no kidding no one is more aware of that than me. I got a 58 on the last exam, the teacher is horrible. And don’t think its me not him because I have a 4.0. I’m just baffled by this class, I doubt I can get better than a C which isn’t good enough for LA or UCB I think.

What class is this? It doesn’t sound like a good scenario but then again if you can pull a C they stay, unless it’s a major pre-req

yeah seriously what class is this?! it sucks that you have a 4.0 but are being baffled by an igetc class…

Spanish. The teacher is horrible, his idea of “teaching” is to play charades with vocabulary words from the end of the chapter. Then the exam was bs, he said learn verb conjugations and you’re golden, which I did and aced that section. Thing is, he put a bunch of garbage on it that he didn’t flipping teach us. He’s a high school teacher and this is his only college class, which is probably why he’s so terrible. I don’t bloody have time to teach myself a foreign language this semester with 4 other classes, one of them a math class which I’m utter ***** at and have to devote countless hours studying until I get it.

I don’t think I can even pull a C in this class, but I will know for sure on Tuesday when he gives us our overall grade in the class. The thing I’m thinking about is that I seem to be screwed if I drop or not, either way. Cuz I’m not sure I can even pass the class and I’m effed if I can’t cuz I’ll get an F or D on my transcript, but then again I’m also effed if I drop according to you guys.

IGETC is not required for being admitted to UCLA. I would recommend dropping and taking the class over summer (If another professor teaches during the summer), so that way you can still finish IGETC before transfer.

are u applying to berk? from what i know, they deffs want the igetc done before summer.

Yes, I applied to both Berkeley and LA. I could drop it and then try to take it over summer, but the problem is that’s risky because there’s talk my school might not even have summer classes due to the state being broke.

wheelmanlol, my school said the same thing the past 2 summers…

Um for Berkeley it says on the supp apps that you can complete IGETC in the SUMMER. But not for major prereqs…so you might be fine if u take one in the summer.

“You may not use the summer term 2011 to complete breadth/general education course work.”
“You may use the summer term 2011 to complete prerequisite course work for the major.”

^taken from my berkeley supp.

I definitely would not risk that. If you can pass, keep going. Once your admitted, one C won’t change their decision. But dropping the course could change your admissions decision. STRONGLY recommend you do not do that.

@redoplease

oh, looks like I got it reversed haha.
