I am currently a senior in high school taking 6 AP classes my first semester.
I have gotten straight A’s up until now and sent in all my college apps… My first choice college being UCLA, I really did want to avoid senioritis but it has long taken over my study habits and it seems like I will be receiving 3 B’s and 3 A’s at the end of this semester. I am struggling really hard in AP Physics and am considering dropping that class second semester, which would give me more time to focus on my other AP’s. I know I’ll be able to pass the class for sure, I just don’t know if it would be worth it to go through this again.
All aspects of my application was strong; 4.4 GPA, 1470 SAT, 33 ACT, and a ton of extracurriculars. I know I would have to notify them of the change in schedule, but is there a chance this would significantly affect my admission chances into UCLA?
You should contact admissions at the school and ask. If you do drop the class you should notify admissions in writing of the schedule change. My gut is if you can get a C or better you may be better off not changing your schedule at this point. Perhaps meet with the teacher regularly, get a tutor if you can, go through Khan academy videos etc. to help you get through the course.
I agree with what @VickiSoCal said. my advice to you would be to continue with the AP physics class and work harder. as far as I know, colleges prefer that you get a b rather than give up – especially if the reason for the low grade is because of an extraordinary condition. something else you should consider is writing your admissions essay on why the sudden drop in your grades.
