Hi everyone!
Anyway, last year, I only took CP classes, got only A's.
This year, I'm taking 3 AP classes... my grades are the following:

(CP) Algebra II: A
(CP) Theater: A
(AP) English III: A
(AP) Chemistry Lab: A
(AP) Chemistry Lec: B
(AP) US History: D

As you can see, my unweighted GPA is currently low. The reason for my D, is solely because I'm not as great at history as I thought I would be. I mean, I'm doing a lot better than I did in the beginning of the year, and I'm on track to ending with a C, but next semester, I miiiight get a B. With a C, my UW semester GPA would be a 3.5, and weighted be a 4.0. This would make my UC UW GPA be a 3.83/4.0.

Do you guys think I should drop APUSH after this semester? Next semester, I'm planning to pick up American Sign Language II as well as English at a local community college (and acing them). I'm fairly certain I'd be able to get an A in college prep US History.

With my 2250 SAT, number of SAT IIs, 3 self studied AP's, Nonprofit against Malaria (501c3), 400 hours of community service, 5K run I'm organizing, and a decent amount of leadership positions, I'm planning to apply to the following schools...

Assuming your a junior. The APUSH grade is going to be a red flag no matter what. You’ll look a lot better if you’re able to stick it out and get it up to a B than if you drop and get an A in the easier class. OTOH, getting another C wouldn’t look good at all.

If I were an adcom, with all your other numbers and ECs, I’d say that the APUSH grade says you don’t know how to prioritize and manage your time, when you clearly have the talent, which makes you a risk. UCs are a different admissions world, so I don’t know how they’re going to look at it.

Everyone is allowed a wart or two on their record, but you may use up your limit with your APUSH grades. Be careful about having any more blemishes.

Thank you, MrMom62 for your response!
Ideally, I’d like to get straight A’s next semester. But, if settling for a B in APUSH proves that I can function adequately in a college leveled history course, then count me in
I have been trying harder in US, taking more time to study. I merely hope to pass the AP test this May if I decide to stick with it- because of my lack of understanding the first quarter of USH. Worst comes to worse, I’ll let this be my one “wart.” Either way, I guess it’ll show how determined I am!

Note that a D disqualifies the course from fulfilling UC’s a-g requirements, so you would need to repeat the course or take another qualifying course to make up the gap.

I have a 94 now. Cool beans, my textbook was very dry (Brinkley’s). Rich in content, but dry. No love for history. I returned it, and bought AMSCO. I’ve been getting solid B’s on tests, and A+'s on quizzes. My teacher refused to round, but ostensibly, a 750+ on the Subject Test and a 5 might change her mind! :)
