Dropping below 12 Units

If I am enrolled in 3 classes and decide to drop one with a W and end up with 8 units for the quarter am I going to get penalized for not meeting the minimum progress requirements? TIA.

so this situation also happened to me when I was a freshman
my advisor advised to add a class that Im not eligible to enroll in and three weeks after class started, I got dropped from the class and ended up with only 2 classes of total of 8 units. So when I talk to my advisor again, she said that the basic idea is that UCSD wants you to take at least 12units per quarter times 3 quarters so that each year you are taking at least 36 units to be consider full time student. However, if you are taking less than 12 units a quarter for whatever reasons, you just have to make it up in other quarters. So next quarter, you probably have to at least take 4 class to make up for the one class that you dropped now.

I mean I didn't get penalized and I don't think it's a big deal as long as you make it up later, meaning you have to have a minimum of 36 units a year. Hope this info helped

That's what I thought. I plan on taking 4 classes next quarter so I think I'll be okay. Thanks a lot for the info.
