What are the negative implications of dropping below full time? If I drop a class, I would be at 9 quarter units.

you will be charged for any financial aid that goes above the part-time budget

and probably won't make the 27 unit check in winter or spring... which places a hold on your account

You can drop below the 12 unit minimum (without being charged) as long as its after the finaid office does the unit check (which usually occurs during weeks 3 and 4)... I did it last winter and no charges...

Whats the 27unit check?

The check that I was talking about and the check that kick53rv3 was talking about are two different things.

kick53rv3 was talking about the ECP (expected cummulative progress) check that happens every other quarter. you have to meet a certain number of units or a hold will get put on your account until you go speak to a counselor.

i was talking about the quarterly unit check the finaid office does to verify that you have full-time student status.

that sucks. How did you get past that? I'm also thinking about taking winter off(maybe..). Would that count too?

I got around it because I was a fourth year and graduated in the spring and had enough total units so that it didn't matter...

I'm not really sure what happens if you take a quarter off... You'd probably have to talk to a counselor in Murphy about that...
