Hi guys! This may sounds like a really dumb question, but I’m in the process of getting an internship that directly relates to my field of study (agriculture), but my available hours to work are quite limited. If I drop one of my afternoon classes, which is a music class (so not very important if I drop), I will be available to work 7 hours more each week. The deadline has passed to drop without a W, so my question is: how bad does a W look on a transcript? I go to a community college, and I need to have a stellar transcript in order to transfer to Cal Poly SLO. I know that on the Cal Poly application, there is nowhere to explain your reasoning for dropping a class, so is it worth dropping?
How much difference will it make for your internship site that you have those additional hours available?
To me, this looks like a perfectly fine reason for the W. You have an internship or job that requires that you work during the time that class was offered. One W is not a problem provided the rest of your transcript is stellar. Many W’s are.
^^^ agreed.
