I'm a sophomore and screwed up and took a class that I can not take. I have 12 hours but I NEED to drop this class, I can't understand the teacher and it is horrible.

Is the census date passed? would it be horrible to drop to 9 hours? I'm a sophomore with 45 hours already.....

It is okay to drop the class. (Can one still switch to pass fail? Is this a class you could just “pass”?)

9 credits is too little progress toward your degree I think. Sometimes people find their parents’ health insurance will only cover them if they are full time students. You should call the financial aid office to see how this would impact your grade.

or is there one that has not started yet that you could take? some start tonight and I saw at least one that starts Thursday night, but I don’t know if registration is still open.

Yes. You just need the approval of the department to add a class after the 4th class day (this past Monday). You can always drop.

But going < 12 hours is a bad idea and usually creates problems, since a lot of things require that you are a full time (12+) student.

You could always pick up three PED classes or something to get the hours requirement, but that might be excessive. Just join a really easy elective, even if it doesn’t count to your degree.

"If your financial aid funds have already been released, and you drop below full time (12 hrs for undergraduates and 9 hours for graduates), you will receive a strike.

If you receive three strikes in your academic career at UT, you will become ineligible to receive further financial aid at UT, without submitting an appeal.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED YOUR PELL GRANT FUNDS FOR THE SEMESTER, YOU WILL NEED TO CONTACT OUR OFFICE ASAP. Submit a question through Ask DON! Part of your grant may need to be repaid.

If you have not received your financial aid for that semester, dropping below 12 hours will prevent your funds from being released. You may be eligible for some aid if you plan to enroll for at least 6 hours. Please submit a question through Ask DON! and state the number of hours you will be taking."
