I'm well aware that BBs drug test prospective employees once a job offer has been made. But from what I've heard about it, this is only at the post collegiate level going into a full-time internship/job. I was wondering if drug test are given out to interns that are still in college. For instance will Merril Lynch test a rising junior in college that is interning with them in the summer?

Any feedback would be great, and please dont think of me as an avid drug abuser because I assure you I'm not. Some "drugs" that shouldnt even be illegal certainly can stay with you a long time. I just wanted to clear the air and have my question answered.

Ajp, it depends. I interned at a firm over the summer as a high school student and they required a drug test. College students interning over the summer there had to do the same.

Nodnard - That has nothing to do with my question. Anyone with a social life has encountered some type of drug whether it should be legal or not. I am dealing with the fact that they are "illegal" and that is exactly why I made this post. It isnt only me that is curious about this.

Don't smoke for a couple of months prior to the test (or longer if you can), and ask for a detox kit at GNC. No worries.

Actually, i have a question about drug testing in America. After the first one, do they have surprise tests throughout your employment or can you go back to the old ways once you pass the initial test?

If you are to be tested, when does the test usually occur? Right after the offer in lets say February, or do you wait until right before you start in the summer?

If you get an internship, then you will most likely be tested. Don’t expect urine tests that only check 30 days back. They use hair tests that can check 10 years back. I am unsure if these tests only target certain hard drugs. (You may want to check w/ them, j/k.)

Good link…. I’m pretty sure they told me 10 yrs, but I would trust that site more than I would trust them. Maybe that was their attempt at getting me to admit something.

I'm not trying to contradict you JERK, I was just interested in the possibility of a test that could see what you did 10 years ago so I googled.

I also heard recently that hair test are VERY inaccurate and companies are not using them as often because they are being sued for false-positives.

But what I'm really interested in is when this test will occur. Will it be in February when I get an offer (potentially of course), or in the summer right before I go to work for them?

i dont ajp you might want to abstain for a bit until the water is clear. while i agree that some drugs like weed should not be illegal, you really don't want to mess up your chances at a great job over something so stupid

no i totally understand that and i intend on stopping indefinitely. although, if the test were to be administered in a few weeks (if i get an offer), ill be screwed. but adversly if its in the summer, ill have no problem.

hair tests are rarely used, and if they are, they usually occur for government jobs, and they go back past 90 days. Time is different for everyone
