So I know most banks drug test for internships. My question is what kind of test do they usually do and when do they do it. Is it the day after I get the offer or right before I start? I am interviewing in November but the internship is in the summer.
I am specifically interested in PNC, KeyBank, and Goldman Sachs. Thanks!
I am confused… so you used, and are worried you will get caught? I have been routinely drug tested by banks (contracror who comes and goes a lot), but never paid attention to what they are testing for. I am sure pot and cocaine, not sure what else. What can you do except stop now and hope to pass the test?
for Internship, I believe companies doesn’t require an individual since it is just a training, even though they are committed with the company. but to answer your question, yes, drug test do happen if the individual accepted the offer and before it start the actual work. the usual tests stool test, blood test, xray. my sister works from a bank so I asked her about it.
They will usually test your hair and send it away for a sample analysis. It will either be done after you accept their offer or on the day you start. Given it is for an internship and you are probably not in the same city as the job now they will probably wait until you start in the summer. They will test for illegal drugs (eg, cocaine, cannabis and opiates). Stay clean from now on and you have nothing to worry about!
This is old information, since I retired 10 years ago, but we would tell new employees that they had to take a drug test and that it would detect drugs for 30 days. Then we would very pointedly tell them that they could schedule the test at their convenience, up to a week before starting. We were not too concerned about occasional use, but we did not want to hire someone who couldn’t stay clean for 30 days. I had a few applicants fail the drug test; sad.
I think the idea is that before they trust a stranger with their assets-- or the assets of their customers/clients-- they want to ensure that the stranger is unlikely to make one of those “little mistakes” you mentioned.
So your first step is to put lots of clean time between that last (and I do mean LAST) “little mistake” and your application.
Far better to miss an opportunity to intern than to fail a drug test.
Thank you every one for the responses! Like I said, it was a really dumb mistake. It has been exactly 60 days since, and I just received the offer letter (Hell yeah!). I am never doing it again but I am still paranoid they will require a hair test next week or something. From what I have heard its not due for much longer than the next 30 days, and that hair tests are not common. So I should be good (fingers crossed)! Thanks again.
